Our Programs: Overview

The Pelham Public Schools set high expectations for students to reach their full potential. Our programs incorporate traditional and innovative instructional strategies  based on the latest research, best practices and our 2014-17 Strategic Plan.  This plan calls for incorporating  21st century learning skills into our academic and co-curricular programs,  providing  coordinated networks of support  for our K-12 learners, fostering the social-emotional development of students, and building a professional culture of learning for faculty and staff.

Our four neighborhood elementary schools are guided by the belief that good schools nurture a child's intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth.  We engage children in learning experiences that are relevant, purposeful, challenging, and hands on. We respect children's developmental needs, interests, learning styles and differences as they strive to master content knowledge and skills. With a strong foundation of learning in place, students are challenged to form new understandings and to create new meaning. Individualized yet highly structured instruction in reading and writing workshops; a focus on understanding, problem solving, and computational fluency in mathematics; proactive early screening, and a daily 45-minute enrichment and intervention block are all part of the elementary school program.

Pelham Middle School is designed to meet the academic and social needs of the young adolescent.  The grade 6-8 program includes team teaching, integrated studies, learning projects, outdoor education experiences, and an emphasis on a continuum of critical and creative thinking and reading and writing skills.  All 8th graders are enrolled in Regents Earth Science; accelerated and honors programs are also offered.  World language study begins in 6th grade with a choice of French, Italian, Latin, Mandarin, or Spanish.  The Middle School is a candidate for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, which emphasizes inquiry-based and student-centered learning that is connected to real-world experiences within a global context

As a four-year high school, Pelham Memorial High School provides a range of more than 100 courses and a rigorous college preparatory program for its academically diverse students. In a supportive environment that promotes respect and responsibility, students also develop through a rich performing and creative arts program and a wide variety of extracurricular and athletic activities. The facility includes the latest technology, a Bio-Tech Lab, two World Language labs, a fitness center and broadcast media studio. Students earn recognition on regional, state and national levels in all fields, including science, math, writing, the arts, world languages, and athletics.  PMHS was selected for the 5th Annual AP Honor Roll in 2014-15.
